Thousands raised from Marlow Riders’ very successful Red Kite Sportive
By Matthew Wing, Surrey & Marlow Wheels for All.
When I last went along to talk at a Marlow Riders committee meeting one of their members pulled me aside & said “suggest you don’t try & spend all your time asking the members to volunteer as most of them are too busy working & riding their bikes! But what they are good at is raising a load of money for your charity!!”
So I quickly changed my short speech & focused on how their club could set the standard for other cycling clubs across the country & whilst we always needed local volunteers, the charity also needed donations to help grow the fleet of adapted cycles.
In the last few weeks the Marlow Riders have kindly donated the charity £13,000. This money has been raised from the clubs very successful Red Kite Sportive which is often over subscribed & has been voted one of the best run cycling events in the South East.
This is the third sizeable donation made by the club in the last three years & has meant that we have been able to bring in more cycles and also buy a large storage container [from Surrey Wheels for All] that has been placed at the Little Marlow Athletics track, the new home for Marlow WFA.
We are exceedingly grateful for Marlow Riders’ support of our indispensable Wheels for All facility.
